Quincy Compressor Helps Industry Tackle the High Cost of Producing Compressed Air
BAY MINETTE, AL, March 31, 2010 - - Quincy Compressor announced today the release of its new QGV family of Variable Speed Drive air compressors which operates efficiently to reduce energy costs.
The QGV line is a complete family of variable speed compressors, with models from 20 to 200 horsepower. These innovative products allow customers to lower the energy consumption associated with producing compressed air, thereby lowering operating overhead and carbon footprint. The new QGV line is versatile as well, capable of operating continuously at full speed, if required. The Quincy QGV, available from 20-200 horsepower, can function as a base-load machine, providing fully rated capacity, or as a trim machine. In the trim position, the QGV only supplies the air required by the system while maintaining the target pressure within +/- 2 psi. The QGV can supply as little as 15% of full-load capacity, providing substantial energy savings over start/stop or modulating compressors. Other features include: - Sound levels as low as 68 dB(A) - Full-color touch screen control - Real-time monitoring with performance trending - Efficient operation to lower a customerrs carbon footprint - Typically saves 35% energy versus traditional air compressors - 75 to 150 PSIG operation - Integrated Networking feature allows for automatic sequencing with applicable models - Royal Blue Warranty- 10 year airend, 5 years on major components

With Price Reductions of Up to 70 Percent, Enfield Technologies Makes Proportional Pneumatic Control More Affordable
Thanks to some innovative engineering, Enfield Technologies has reached an important goal - making a complete proportional pneumatic control system much more affordable.
"We wanted to bring proportional pneumatics to new audiences," said Ed Howe, Enfield Technologies' President. "In motion control, that means a pneumatic actuator with intermediate positioning needs to break the $1,000 price barrier. We beat that target by a wide margin, with the total price of a basic system coming down from $1,841 to $884 - a reduction of 52 percent."
A basic positioning system includes a proportional valve and control electronics manufactured by Enfield Technologies paired with a pneumatic actuator and a position sensor provided by a variety of highly regarded partner companies. The same valves and control electronics used in motion control are also used for proportional pressure, flow, and force regulation applications.
During the last 18 months, Enfield Technologies has revised its sourcing and manufacturing processes. They have also reengineered several key products, adding new features, improving performance and reducing costs. This has allowed the company to offer price reductions averaging 42 percent on its primary components. For example, the LS-C10 controller dropped 70 percent, from $564 to $169.20, and the LS-V25s proportional valve dropped 45 percent, from $721 to $396.60. Enfield Technologies has also implemented volume discounts and an additional 5 percent bundle discount (bundle kits include a controller, valve and cable).
Enfield Technologies has added more than 35 technical resellers and integration partners over the last year. The company has also launched several new products, including the Enfinity System (C2 controller and M2 valves). "Expanded distribution and new products have led to growth and increased volumes," Howe said, "which has led to further cost reductions that we are passing along to our customers."

Connectors Provide Solenoid Valve Surge Suppression Protection
Canfield Connectorrs Series P5600 Micro Protective Connectors provide electrical controllers with surge protection against voltage spikes that are caused by the solenoids used on hydraulic and pneumatic solenoid valves. These MPCs are available in standard MINI, ISO, and Sub-Micro 8mm and 9.4mm. The P5600 connectors provide the advantages of suppression such as reduced contact burnoff which increases switch life and reduced high frequency interference pulses which lowers electronic noise. They are ideal for use with reed switch proximity sensors and will protect programmable controllers and other types of electronic devices from inductive spikes. The Series P5600 connectors are NEMA 4 and IP 65 dust tight and water resistant and do not require additional modules or hardware. Consult the manufacturer for available CSA versions.
The Series P5600 and all Canfield Connector products are manufactured to ISO 9001 with design specifications to the highest quality standards. Complete specifications can be found at www.canfieldconnector.com or by calling Bob Howard at 330-758-8299 x 122.

Unique self-adjusting pneumatic cushioning system promises dramatic reduction in machine set-up times
Innovative end-position control system automatically adapts to prevailing load and speed conditions
Faster and safer cylinder installation, with optimal performance and maintenance-free operation Northampton, August 26, 2009 --- Festo has developed a unique self-adjusting pneumatic cushioning system, which is now available as a build to order option for the company's popular DSNU series round cylinder pneumatic actuators. The new system employs innovative, patented air channel geometry to provide phased venting of the cushioning air. The system automatically adapts its characteristics to suit the cylinder's prevailing load and speed conditions, to provide optimum end-position cushioning.
Festo is initially offering the new self-adjusting cushioning system on its popular DSNU family of round cylinders. Models available with the new system span diameters from 16 to 63 mm, with stroke lengths up to 500 mm - and delivery is usually within 24 hours. The DSNU series of pneumatic actuators already offers users a choice of polymer (P) or manually-adjustable pneumatic (PPV) end-position cushioning, for applications involving low and high impact energy levels, respectively. The new self-adjusting (PPS) cushioning is primarily intended for medium impact energy applications, involving loads up to about 5 kg and speeds up to approximately 1 metre/sec. PPS cushioning is also available on Festo's CRDSNU corrosion-resistant stainless steel round-line cylinders, which offer the additional benefit of cleaner lines for improved wash-down by eliminating any potential for dirt entrapment around a cushioning screw.
Because the exhaust flow of the pneumatic cushioning chamber changes over the damping stroke, Festo's PPS system works with most commonly permissible speed and mass combinations, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. As Steve Sands, Festo's Product Manager, points out, "Round cylinders account for a significant proportion of our pneumatic actuator sales, and about 60 percent of the DSNU cylinders that we sell are equipped with PPV cushioning; of these, about 80 percent are used for applications that would benefit directly from our new PPS self-adjusting cushioning. Given that the PPS system actually costs less than our manually-adjustable technology, saves setting-up time and is always providing the optimum cushioning, we expect it to be a very popular choice with machine builders."
The advantages of self-adjusting end-position cushioning are considerable. Manually adjusting the end-position damping of linear actuators is time-consuming, and can only be done effectively once the actuator is in-situ and under operating load conditions. By then the automation supplier is invariably under pressure to complete the task as quickly as possible. It also frequently involves two people - one to operate the appropriate pneumatic valve, the other to adjust the actuator's damping characteristics. As with all moving parts, access can be potentially hazardous, which means that safety considerations dictate that only experienced personnel should perform these adjustments. Actuators are often less than perfectly adjusted, with under-damping resulting in higher end-position impacts, higher noise levels and increased wear, or with over-damping resulting in increased machine cycle times.
Festo estimates that on average, the new PPS self-adjusting end-position cushioning system will help users shave five minutes off a cylinder's installation and set-up time. For a typical application, such as a package sorting system with, say, 60 cylinder-driven routing stations, this would result in savings of five man-hours.
Festo's PPS self-adjusting end-position cushioning provides a complete 'fit and forget' solution. Since it has no settings to change it is completely tamper-proof, and it offers a long, maintenance-free service life. Festo DSNU pneumatic cylinders equipped with the new PPS system are 100 percent interchangeable with the company's manually-adjustable DSN-PPV models.
